Key responsibilities & accountabilities:
1.Represent / execute design engineering interests on new product development projects (design review, design validation, preproduction build, DFMEA, etc.).
2.Provide support to the sales team / account managers in the product development phase.
3.Generate and present design proposals to internal and external customers.
4.Develop, implement and support continuous design improve techniques.
5.Provide support to the Production Engineering team in the development of new production processes and equipment.
6.Explore, evaluate, characterise and develop new process techniques.
7.Support the purchasing function on technical items.
Skills:
1.Personality: The candidate will be self-driven, have a positive outlook and be commercially aware. They will have good forward planning abilities, be well presented, credible and businesslike. With good communication skills are comfortable with leading small project teams, confident in dealing with customers and suppliers. With a strong work ethic the candidate will be keen to tackle each day with a view to completing the tasks in hand.
2.Personal situation: Able to spend one or two nights away from home on occasion without upsetting domestic situation. Able to commute reliably to the Suzhou office. Able to work extended hours when required. Able to support occasional 2 or 3 week deployments to the UK office.
3.Specific job skills: Working knowledge of the following is desirable but not essential, depending on the skills combinations; automotive industry standards and working practices (QS9000, ISO 9001:2000, TS16949, ISO 1401), formal analysis techniques (8D, 5Y, PDCA, FTA, 6 Sigma), design for manufacture development techniques, basic principles of electrical theory, design of precision moulded parts, finite element analysis, mould flow analysis, ultrasonic welding of plastics, thermal forming of plastics.
4.Computer skills: Adept in the use of MS Office. Working knowledge of Solidworks or similar 3D modelling CAD system. Comfortable using intranet, internet and email as primary information conduits.
5Academic / professional experiences: Preferably a graduate with a strong degree in mechanical / mechatronic engineering. Minimum of three years auditable track record in this role.
6.Management ability: Though internal staff management is not initially part of the job, responsibility and opportunity could grow with the development of the business for the right candidate. Therefore some people management skills, experience and natural ability will be useful.
